The pages on this website have an Osmund family graphic background. Although we are not Mormons, we must acknowledge that the Osmund family has been an outstanding role model.
We’ ve received many requests for some common sense advice on how to be a good brother or sister; so, here we go:
1. Be loyal to your bothers and sisters.
2. If you have a disagreement with your brother or sister, talk with them about it in private.
3. Do not criticize your brothers and sisters in public.
4. Do not criticize your brothers and sisters to or in front of strangers.
5. Do not criticize your brothers and sisters to or in front of other family members.
6. Do not criticize your brothers and sisters to or in front of your spouse.
7. Do not criticize your brothers and sisters to or in front of your children. If you do, your children won’t seek their help in time of need if you are not around. After all, if your children believe their aunt or uncle is stupid, why would they seek their help.
8. If you have a disagreement with your brother or sister, do not CC everyone in your address book when you communicate by email.
9. Learn what “degrees of loyaty” means. You should be more loyal to some people than to others.
10. You should be more loyal to your brothers and sisters than your personal friends.
11. You should be more loyal to your brothers and sisters than your cousins.
12. You should be more loyal to your brothers and sisters than your aunts and uncles.
13. You should be more loyal to your brothers and sisters than your nephews and nieces.
14. The only people you should be more loyal to than your brothers and sisters are your spouse, your parents, your grandparents, your great grandparents, your great great grandparents, your great great great grandparents, etc., your children and their spouses, your grandchildren and their spouses, and any other indirect descendants you might have and their spouses.
15. You should be more loyal to your brothers and sisters than your in-laws.
16. You should forgive any and every sin and offense that a brother or sister may commit.
17. Do not talk about your brothers and sisters behind their back.
18. Check on your brothers and sisters once in awhile; a minimum of once a month is not a bad idea.
19. Visit with your brothers and sisters on or around major holidays; especially, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
20. Confer with your brothers and sisters about aging parents, grandparents, etc.
21. Share the responsibility of taking care of aging parents, grandparents, etc.
22. Do not use abusive language with your brothers and sisters; especially, profanity and obscenity.
23. Show more respect to older brothers and sisters.
