First, forget about what political party the politician belongs to. This is necessary because most people tend to favor one party or another. This results in some warping of their judgment as to whether a politician is telling the truth. Next, follow these steps:
- Count the number of occasions the politician spends their time criticizing the other party.
- Count the number of occasions the politician offers a solution to a problem.
- If #1 above is greater than #2 above, the politician is more likely to be lying to you.
- Count the number of times the politician changes the subject when responding to a question.
- Count the number of times the politician does not change the subject and answers a question when responding.
- If #4 above is greater than #5 above, the politician is more likely to be lying to you.
