BIBLICAL APPLICARETICS
How To Correctly Apply The Interpretation Of The Bible
By Dr. Michael
J. Bisconti
What is “biblical
applicaretics”? Biblical applicaretics
is the application of the science of applicaretics to the Bible. What is the science of “applicaretics”?
applicaretics: the study of the methodological principles
of application of interpretation (meaning) of a text (as of a text in the
Bible)
When one studies the Bible they
apply the principles of scientific biblical hermeneutics (principles of
interpretation [laws of exegesis]) to get the correct interpretation (meaning)
of the biblical passage they are studying.
However, God gave us the Bible not only to understand (its
interpretation [meaning]) but also to apply what we understand, to apply
its interpretation (meaning).
Correct application is
especially important when it comes to verses in the Bible that express one or
more promises of God. We need not only
to understand these verses so as to know what the promises of God are. We also need to know what the correct
applications of the interpretation (meaning) of these verses are. For example, Isaiah 54:17 says:
No weapon that is formed against thee shall
prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou
shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and
their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
Many interpret the first part
of this verse to mean that, while evil can rear its ugly head, it will never
affect them. That is the correct
interpretation. However, many make an
incorrect application of this interpretation.
For example, some adopt the application that “they can walk through a
minefield and they will never step on a land mine.” Experience, unfortunately, has proven some of them wrong. You will notice that we said “some.” That is because for some people this was
the correct application. Stories from
World War II recount men who ran through a thousand minefields and never
set off a land mine! These men
had learned how to find the correct application of the interpretation (meaning)
of the Bible verse!
Here are some of the
foundational (see below) principles of scientific biblical applicaretics. From this point on, when we use the word
“application,” it will be understood that we mean “application of an interpretation
(meaning).”
Be sure you have the correct
interpretation (meaning).
The correct interpretation will
be obtained through the use of the principles of scientific biblical
hermeneutics.
If an application is crazy, it
is incorrect.
Now some will say that God
might want us to do something crazy.
They may recount the story about Abraham being willing to sacrifice his
son. What they don’t realize is that, in
Abraham’s mind, HE WAS NOT GOING TO END THE LIFE OF HIS SON. Therefore, Abraham was not doing anything
crazy and did not believe that he was doing anything crazy.
An application of a promise of
God can only apply to things that you know that you cannot control.
For example, the Bible says: “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in
glory by Christ Jesus.” Now, most people know that they are possibly
able to make money. Therefore, the
application that God will give them money while they sit back in their armchair
would not be correct.
An application can be different
for different people.
For example, the application
of “But my God shall
supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” for one person will include refraining from going to work
because they are too weak to do so due to illness while the application for
another person, who is healthy, will not include that.
An application will depend on
the situation.
For example, the application
of “But my God shall
supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” in one situation will include refraining from going to
work because you are too weak to do so due to illness while in another
situation the application, when you are healthy, will not include that.
As we have the opportunity, we
will be explaining the following principles of scientific biblical
applicaretics:
Hermeneutics Principle (explained above)
Sanity Principle (explained above)
Control Principle (explained above)
Personal Principle (explained above)
Situation Principle (explained above)
Unconsciousness Principle
Consciousness Principle
Manifestation Principle
Ego Principle
Hedonic Principle
Pain Principle
Intelligence Principle
Logic Principle
Confidence Principle
Certainty Principle
Conscience Principle (Superego Principle)
Instinct Principle (Id Principle)
We will add this list when we
have the opportunity.
